Hermanus Spelbos:
nique and authentic in Contemporary Dutch Painting!!
If you look closer, you will discover a small but universal message every time, in which the viewer finds himself.
With a glimpse into the fascinating world of the young woman.
A contemporary icon...a tribute...the likes of which you rarely see.
Painting a world in your own unique style with an unparalleled painting technique is rare.
Between all those cows, strawberries and eggs on a scale, grimacing children, flowers in vase, pots and pans and obligatory land and seascapes, every painting by this painter is a gem in this wonderfully fascinating oeuvre.
You have a great future ahead of you, with exhibitions in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. The Netherlands are too small for you as a Poetic Realist!!
Julia Bakker (Flessenpost uit Alkmaar)
How much fun! Your images and poems often bring out the child in me :)
Marie van Breugel (Taalcafé Krimpen a/d IJssel)
Your works make a great impression on our visitors; newcomers from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Brazil and Russia, among others, and certainly also on the accompanying language coaches.
The poems that accompany the paintings in particular are very moving. We would like to delve deeper into the images, design, use of color and appearance, but certainly also into the poems.
Julius Weskamp (via LinkedIn):
.... the phrase "In the world between desire and reality I let the imagination take shape" certainly meets with my approval.
Through the imagination the precipitation of something new... something that does not yet exist, but is given shape by the artist. That is the creation of a new reality."
Berend Zewuster (via LinkedIn):
‘Pictor nascitur, non fit (a painter is born, not made), the ancient Romans said! And when you see these paintings, this is confirmed again after so many centuries! Nice!'
Nico Out (Zeeuwse Courant 2015):
Riann evokes stories with girls in the leading roles in muted tones and stylized fantasy performances. They look at you seriously. And sometimes they are in their own world.
Like the curly-haired girl who touches up red apples with yellow paint with the sea in the background. The title of the painting was: 'because Eva didn't know exactly either'.
An image like that can keep you busy for a while.

If I include Riann's other 'portraits' in my interpretation, it revolves around the role you play as a person, the choices you make and the question to what extent you are free or predestined in this regard. And to what extent are you as a child like the adult of later?
Anouk Slegers:
Honored that I regularly meet you on Facebook and every time you touch me with the desires that have been so fragilely transformed into images. I feel an intense silence that is suddenly interrupted by humor. And then I laugh.
Ann Beernaert (via facebook):
Your works amaze me.

I only know your works (and those of Hermanus) through Facebook, they sometimes encourage me to write poetry... thank you for now coming to your website.
Ria Kee-Holkamp (via e-mail):
Your art is amazing. Beautiful in color... artistic... surprising. Art with a story...
Agnes van Zijdveld (via facebook):
I look again and again at your beautiful, unique works of art with great admiration, both by Hermanus and by you Riann. Will you come here to exhibit?
Arnold NIX Holterman (via Galerian):
Riann's work is something to dream about and about. Dream images of ceramics. Paintings of dreamed women. |And then dream away with the connecting texts. Super and nice work.
Unfortunately it has one disadvantage, everything is so beautiful that it is difficult to make a choice. One is even more beautiful and exciting than the other. I continue to enjoy it.
Bets de Wilde:
What I like about your colorful works is that I can dream away from the harsh reality for a while. Keep it up and keep following your heart xxx.
Els Vegter:
You are what you paint.
Elske van den Elsaker:
How incredibly beautiful, very special, you can't stop looking at it. And what beautiful poems to accompany the work. What a unique collaboration, painting and poetry, or poetry and painting.

Riann! How beautiful this is. Moving. (about lyricism).

Ute Poss:
A woman, beautiful, driven, what an experience. Birds, shells, flowers, fish.
Seen once and touched. It’s a pleasure, every day.
Don't forget the poetry either, spoken from the heart; sounds, words, painting fantasies, dreams, sighs and enjoyment. What more could a person want? Me, nothing, I already got it. Thank you Riann.
Anneke Broere: (via reacties)
Hi Riann, I saw your work on Facebook for the first time this morning. I think it's so beautiful. I see my world again, grateful for that.
Frank van der Eijk:
Dear Rian, I am of course familiar with your and Hermanus' work. Work with personality and character. Can enjoy it.
Lia S.:
You can see the development through the mosaic and glaze. It doesn't stand still, I always see innovation. Beautiful to observe.
I admire your boundless energy to keep moving with your art and to stay true to your style. Nice! ♥️
Jazz B.:
the way you put emotion into your poems is a real treat to be able to read and I think mainly because that's a real rarity thesedays when people often lack emotion
In my view that gives your work the real female edge in that it also explains the deeper meaning of your works and it's beautiful as a man to at least be able to try to comprehend that. The poems open my mind.
